Organises course for employees, and prepares safety report.

Due to its storage of large amounts of isocyanates, Ekornes is classified as a major accident facility.  This imposes requirements on both Ekornes and public departments in terms of responsibility in case of accidents occurring at the company.

Some 80 participants were recently gathered at the Stressless factory.  The occasion was a course held by Senior Engineer Geir Teigen from the Labour Inspectorate for personnel from Ekornes, Sykkylven Municipality, the Health Service, Police, Fire Service, tank lorry drivers and others.

Ekornes has prepared a safety report for the company which has been submitted to the Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB), Sykkylven Chief of Rural Police and Sykkylven Municipality.

New regulations relating to major accidents came into force on 1 July 2005. The scope of the regulations has been expanded and now comprises more chemicals. Hitherto, the regulations applied to about 100 companies, whereas the new regulations comprise some 250 companies.

The purpose of the major accident regulations is to prevent major accidents involving hazardous chemicals, and to limit the consequences.
