Ekornes is one of Europe’s largest consumers of leather. We purchase leather from selected tanneries all over the world. Over 90% of the products we deliver feature leather, and we have our own team of leather specialists.
Inspections and audits are regularly carried out at all suppliers by both Ekornes and external inspectors. We cooperate with recognised international leather institutions in order to remain up-to-date.
Environment and health
Ekornes requires that production processes comply with all current international laws, guidelines and recommendations. Sustainability has high priority within our organisation, and this is clearly stated in our company policy. We cooperate closely with BLC, the leading independent leather technology centre, to ensure that we stay up-to-date regarding matters relating to health, safety, animal welfare and the environment. Ekornes demands full compliance with the REACH Restricted Substances List. This is revised annually.
Several tests are performed in order to monitor and ensure the quality of our products, and to ensure the health and well-being of our customers and employees. Testing methods are revised once a year, in order to ensure that they are updated with the latest equipment and testing technologies.
Ekornes aims to use as much of one hide as possible, but we have strict rules regarding the selection and use of leather. Some natural markings are important because they give the furniture individuality. Others may mar the appearance, and are therefore hidden on the furniture or the leather is not used at all.
