The right fit: tables for your living room

There are three important factors to consider when shopping for a table for your living room; function, size and style.
Function covers what you intend to use the table for such as; a place to display accessories or objets d’art, a storage space for books, magazines, DVDs, or placement for coffee drinks.
The size of the table should complement the size of the living room and other furniture i.e. recliner chairs, leather sofas, armoires etc. The height of the table should be as close to level with the seat cushions of the sofas or recliner chairs. Consider the impact the table will have on the flow of traffic in the living room. Ideally, there should be at least three feet between the table and the sofa, recliner chairs or other adjacent furniture. The length of the table should between half to two thirds the length of the sofa or corner sofa.
There is a wide range of styles, shapes, materials and finishes to choose from; round, oval, rectangle and square, recycled wood, metal and glass and chunky wood in mahogany, pine or oak. Use your existing décor as a guide by selecting textiles, patterns or accessories from your living room. Choose a table that either conforms or contrasts with the décor in the living room. A rectangular table with a glass top adds a modern twist to a classic leather sofa.
