Feng Shui your home

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese philosophy used to bring harmony and balance to your home by applying the simple principle that everything is related to everything.

There are five feng shui elements or energies; wood, fire, water, earth and metal. Each element has corresponding colours, shapes and compass directions that are interactive and can be enhanced, weakened or controlled by each other depending on how you use them.

Pay careful attention to what colours and materials you use and the positioning of furniture and accessories. When adding or changing colour in a room with accessories, a sofa or recliners, create a balance of colours and understand what each colour will bring to the overall effect of the room.  According to feng shui principles, the colour of your sofa and the position of your recliner can either attract good or bad ch’i (energy). For example, a red leather sofa is not recommended for your living room as red is an element of fire and attracts bad ch’i.

For good ch’i to flow through your home unhindered, you need a clean, uncluttered space so clean out any clutter and work on the principle that less is more. Good light and air quality are essential for attracting good ch’i. Open your windows as often as you can and if you are a plant lover, introduce some air-purifying plants to your home. Natural light is the best form of light but if it is not readily or easily accessible use full spectrum lights.
